Class Petty Officer Travis E. Siehndel, USN
Musician First Class Travis Siehndel, a tuba instrumentalist, is a native of Topeka, Kansas and graduated from Topeka High School in 1995. He earned a bachelor of music degree in tuba performance from the University of Kansas in 1999, performing as principal tubist with the University of Kansas' Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Band. He went on to earn a master of music degree in 2001 from the University of Michigan, performing as principal tubist with the University of Michigan's Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Band. He can be heard on the live recording of University of Michigan's H. Robert Reynold's retirement celebration concert. He has studied with Scott Watson and Fritz Kaenzig. Petty Officer Siehndel has performed as principal tubist with the Topeka, Kansas Symphony, Warren Michigan Symphony, and American Wind Symphony Orchestras. He has also performed with the Ann Arbor, Michigan Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet, Topeka Symphony Brass Quintet, Oread Brass Quintet, and Kansas Brass Quintet. MU1 Siehndel enlisted in the Navy in 2001 and earned the United Services Organization Award while at recruit training at Naval Station, Great Lakes. He performs with the concert, ceremonial, and marching bands, and in his spare time, enjoys mountain biking, golfing, and barbecuing.
