Senior Chief
Petty Officer E. Adams Tillett, USN
Senior Chief Musician Adam Tillett, a native of Norfolk, Virginia, attended Old Dominion University from 1982-1985, earned a bachelor of music degree in horn performance from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in 1988, and a master of music degree in horn performance from Northwestern University in 1989. Senior Chief Tillett's teachers include David Bakkegard, former Principal Horn with the Baltimore Symphony; Dale Clevenger, Principal Horn with the Chicago Symphony; Dick Oldberg, former Third Horn, Chicago Symphony; and Robert Kriner, former Principal Horn, Norfolk Symphony. He has also studied with such noted artists as world-renowned horn soloist Barry Tuckwell and Howard T. Howard, Principal Horn with the New York Metropolitan Opera. Senior Chief Tillett joined the United States Naval Academy Band in 1991. In 1998 he was named Co-Principal Horn, and in 2005 was named Principal Horn. In 2003, he was appointed as Unit Leader of Ceremonial Band "Gold." Senior Chief Tillett also performs with the Marching Band, Brass Quintet "Gold," Chamber Winds, and the Wind Quintet, where he served as Unit Leader from 2002 - 2003. He has also appeared as featured soloist with the Concert Band. Senior Chief Tillett's military awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal (4 awards), the National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Senior Chief Tillett is active as a deacon and in various ministries at his church, and he coaches a community youth soccer team and several basketball teams. Senior Chief Tillett enjoys spending time with his family in his off duty hours.
