Petty Officer Jarrod D. Williams, USN
Chief Musician Jarrod D. Williams is a 1990 graduate of Republic High School in Republic, Missouri. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Kansas in 1995 under the tutelage of Mr. Scott Watson and a Master of Music degree in tuba performance from K.U. in 2002, graduating with distinction. Currently, MUC Williams is a doctoral candidate in tuba performance at the University of Maryland. His other teachers include Robert Loffler, Bill Hartman, Toby Hanks and David Fedderly. During his time at the University of Kansas, MUC Williams performed as principal tubist with the symphonic band, wind ensemble, orchestra, jazz ensemble, new music ensemble, tuba consort, and men’s basketball band. He has also played with regional orchestras in Kansas, Missouri, and Maryland, served as chairman of International Tuba and Euphonium Conference Competition Committees in 1998 and 2010, respectively, and performed in such diverse environments as Blues Alley and the Delmarva Chicken Festival. MUC Williams auditioned and was selected for assignment with the Naval Academy Band in 1996. Following recruit training at RTC, Great Lakes, he reported for duty as tubist with the concert band, marching band, and ceremonial units. He was named Principal Tubist in 1998. He is the Leading Chief Petty Officer of the concert band, Brass Quintet Unit Leader, and the band’s training officer. An accomplished arranger, MUC Williams’s transcriptions have been performed by the Naval Academy Band’s tuba quartet, brass quintet, brass ensemble, and concert band, as well as the Washington Symphonic Brass, Symphonia. MUC Williams has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Good Conduct award (4 awards), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Navy Expert Pistol Shot Medal.
