Petty Officer Jarrod D. Williams, USN
Before joining the Navy, Chief Musician Jarrod D. Williams earned his bachelor of music degree from the University of Kansas in 1995 under the tutelage of Mr. Scott Watson and his master of music degree in tuba performance from K.U. in 2002, graduating with distinction. Currently, Chief Williams is a doctoral candidate in tuba performance at the University of Maryland, studying with Toby Hanks. During his time at the University of Kansas, Chief Williams performed as principal tubist with the symphonic band, wind ensemble, orchestra, jazz ensemble, new music ensemble, tuba consort and men’s basketball band. Chief Williams has also played with regional orchestras in Kansas, Missouri, and Maryland, served as chairman of the 1998 International Tuba and Euphonium Conference Military Band Competition, and performed as soloist, clinician, and chamber musician from Texas to Pennsylvania. Chief Williams joined the Naval Academy Band in 1996 and was named Principal Tubist in 1998. His duties include performing with the Concert Band, ceremonial and marching units, leading Brass Quintet “Blue,” and is the band's head librarian. An accomplished arranger, Chief Williams’ transcriptions have been performed by such diverse ensembles as the Washington Symphonic Brass, Symphonia, the Naval Academy Band’s tuba quartet, “Navy Basses”, Brass Quintet, Brass Ensemble and Concert Band. His military awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Navy Good Conduct award (three awards), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Navy Expert Pistol Shot Medal. When not performing, Chief Williams enjoys spending time with his family, baseball history and statistics, and Kansas Jayhawks basketball.
