First Class Petty Officer James J. Wright, USN
Pianist, Naval Academy Band

Musician First Class James Joseph Wright is a native of Buffalo, New York. He began playing piano at the age of ten. Petty Officer Wright attended St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, graduating in 2003, and continued his studies at Indiana University, where he majored in jazz studies/piano performance. Petty Officer Wright worked for Carnival Cruise Lines before winning the audition as pianist with the United States Naval Academy Band in July 2005.

Petty Officer Wright's teachers include David Butler, James Deiotte, Persis Vehar, Russel Owens, George Jones, and Luke Gillespie.

His military awards include the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
