Chief Musician Anthony Asero is a native of Bowie, Maryland. He received Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the University of Maryland as a full scholarship student of Ronald Barnett. During his studies at Maryland, MUC Asero was the winner of the Homer Ulrich Competition in Solo performance. He has also studied with Chris Lamb, Don Liuzzi, Chris Deviney, and John Richardson.
MUC Asero has had a very active career as a free-lance musician, performing with the Baltimore, National, and Chautauqua Symphony Orchestras, the Washington National Opera Orchestra, and the Kennedy Center Ballet Orchestra.
From 1993 to 2001, MUC Asero was Percussionist, Xylophone Soloist, and Assistant Timpanist with the U.S. Navy Band in Washington, DC. He performed in Russia, Sweden, and was featured soloist on their American national tour.
In 2001, MUC Asero auditioned and was selected for assignment to the U.S. Naval Academy Band where he reported for duty as percussionist with the marching band and ceremonial units. He serves as Ceremonial Unit Leader and Enlisted Conductor. As a collateral duty, he is the Building Maintenance and Safety Manager.
MUC Asero has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), Meritorious Unit Commendation (2 awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal (7 awards), National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
