French Horn
Chief Musician Anthony Valerio graduated from Annapolis High School in 1983. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree in horn performance from West Virginia University in 1987 and a Master of Music degree in horn performance from the Peabody Conservatory in 1992.
Prior to enlisting in the Navy, MUC Valerio performed with the All-American College Orchestra at Walt Disney World in 1986 and the Grand Teton Orchestral Seminar in 1988. In 1987, he toured the Soviet Union as Principal Horn of the Peabody Symphony Orchestra.
In 1989, MUC Valerio auditioned and was selected for assignment to the U. S. Naval Academy Band. Following recruit training at RTC, Orlando, he reported for duty as horn player with the wind ensemble, marching band, and ceremonial units. His collateral duties include Leading Chief Petty Officer of Marching and Ceremonial Units, and Chief in Charge of the Wind Quintet.
MUC Valerio has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy Good Conduct (6 awards), National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
