Clarinet Quartet 2011

Clarinet Quartet

The United States Naval Academy Band Clarinet Quartet is made up of members of the concert band clarinet section, and performs traditional and contemporary clarinet quartet literature. The group uses all of the instruments from the clarinet family, including E-flat Soprano Clarinet, B-flat Clarinet, Basset Horn, E-flat Alto Clarinet, and B-flat Bass Clarinet. The Clarinet Quartet is led by Chief Musician Dawn Henry.

Formed in 2010, the Clarinet Quartet has earned an outstanding performing reputation among music educators and professional musicians on the national and global stage. The quartet has been featured on the Naval Academy Band recital series, and has participated in outreach and educational events. Most notably, the quartet performed for the re-dedication of the registered historic Zimmerman-Wilson House, original home of legendary Naval Academy Band leader Charles Zimmerman, composer of Anchors Aweigh. The group has been the inspiration for a new composition for the clarinet quartet medium, entitled Gestures by Dr. Mary Jeanne van Appledorn, Professor of Music Composition at Texas Tech University, and 22-time ASCAP Award winner.

The ensemble regularly performs at retirement communities, public libraries, and for community events, demonstrating the versatility and high musical standards of the United States Naval Academy Band.
