THE
SUPERINTENDENT'S COMBO
The Superintendent's Combo, the United States Naval Academy Band's jazz quartet, is the epitome of "cool" and "hot" in one dynamic package. Under the direction of Senior Chief Musician Dan Drew, the Superintendent's Combo was created to support the many social events hosted by the Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy. They regularly perform for local military officials and visiting dignitaries from around the globe. In addition to their busy schedule at the Superintendent's quarters, the group performs a limited number of public concerts each year, enthusiastically sharing their unique talents. Featured with the Superintendent's Combo are Senior Chief Musician Dan Drew, trombone; Musician First Class Cam Collins, alto saxophone; Musician First Class J. J. Wright, piano; Chief Musician James Fowler, acoustic and electric basses; and Musician First Class Joe McCarthy, drums. Each member of this elite group was chosen for their abilities as a jazz soloist, but in force they create music, sometimes romantic, sometimes wild, but ALWAYS exciting! Their repertoire includes swing era classics, great love songs, as well as cool and contemporary jazz. Noted for their creative arrangements, each song becomes an adventure in beautiful melody, rich harmony, infectious rhythm, and lyrical soloing. Sound file of "I'm Old Fashioned" in MP3 format.
