In honor of Women’s History Month, the Naval Academy Band presents “Women in Music” on March 6th, at 7:30 p.m. at the Chesapeake Arts Center in Brooklyn Park, MD, with a repeat performance on March 7th at 7:30 p.m. at the Naval Academy’s Mitscher Hall.

Included on this concert is Mark Camphouse’s A Movement for Rosa, honoring civil rights heroine, Rosa Parks.  The final section of this beautiful tone poem is one of quiet strength and serenity and includes the hymn, We Shall Overcome.  Other works to be performed are American Rhapsody by Anne McGinty, and Hands of Mercy by Julie Giroux.

The featured soloist is Musician First Class Erin Heere, performing the exciting final movement of Jacques Ibert’s Flute Concerto.  Musician First Class Devona Schiller will conduct Melanie Donahue’s Eire, and Percy Grainer’s setting of Country Gardens.

Naval Academy Band concerts are free and open to the public with no tickets required.  The Chesapeake Arts Center is located at 194 Hammonds Lane, Brooklyn Park, MD, 410-636-6597.  For more information, please call (410) 293-0263.
