From lmcdowel@usna.edu Fri Jan 21 14:56:59 2011 Date: Fri, 21 Jan 2011 14:56:58 -0500 (EST) From: Assoc Prof Luke McDowell To: forester@usna.edu, IC220.ALL@usna.edu Subject: tip on HW #2 Exercise 2-3 involves converting a hexadecimal number to binary, and also to decimal. Tip: you could convert the binary number directly to decimal, but it takes fewer steps to convert from hex to decimal. Recall that the value 234 in hex means 234 (hex) = 2*(16^2) + 3*(16^1) + 4*(16^0). where 16^2 means 16 raised to the second power (16 squared). -LKM
