From lmcdowel@usna.edu Fri Oct 31 16:21:48 2008 Date: Fri, 31 Oct 2008 16:21:48 -0400 (EDT) From: Asst Prof Luke McDowell Subject: quiz/reading for next week In lieu of reading, do the following. This counts as your reading quiz for next week -- due IN CLASS next Wednesday. 0. Install Perl on your Bancroft machine. Instructions are here: /Users/cs/lmcdowel/courses/it350/F08/perl.html 1. Read the notes about "Double click deletes my..." at the link above. 2. Make a test file perltest.pl and save it somewhere. this file should have this: use Sys::Hostname; print "Perl runs on my computer -- woo-hoo!\n\n"; print hostname() . ":" . localtime() . "\n"; 3. Open a command prompt, go the right directory where perltest.pl is, and run: perl perltest.pl (if you need more instructions, see the CGI lab) 4. Take a screenshot of the output. On Windows: Use Alt-PrintScreen to take a screenshot, then paste it somewhere (like in Word). On Linux: you probably know what to do already. If you must, you can just paste the text and print that. 5. Print out the screenshot and turn it in on Wednesday. Don't forget your name. -LKM
