MATLAB & Simulink Student Version Release 14 with Service Pack 3
1. To introduce the basic operations of the MATLAB language.
2. To write simple script files and function files in MATLAB
and to effectively use the
built–in features of 2–D plotting.
Extra Instruction (EI) is available and encouraged when your own attempts to understand the subject matter are unsuccessful. Unless otherwise announced, EI will be by appointment. Come prepared with specific questions or areas to be discussed.
There are no scheduled quizzes, but I reserve the right to give a quiz at any time. There will be weekly homework assignments, which will be graded from 0-5. Failure to turn in a homework assignment will result in a zero.
The class is held in the Lab. During class, there will be a particular assignment to complete. Completing the labs will then become your homework.
The midterm and final will include a programming portion, where you will be given a task and you must write a program to complete it.
There will be a final programming project, where you will work on your own to solve a problem.
As with the projects, all student work must be performed in concordance with the The Honor Concept of the Brigade of Midshipmen,, the Policies Concerning Graded Academic Work, and the Department Policy Concerning Programming Projects, found at http://www.usna.edu/CS/academics/honor.htm.
Students are responsible for obtaining any material missed due to an absence. Additionally, students must ensure that their work is submitted by the deadline regardless of other commitments, i.e. duty, sick call, movement orders, etc. Should bona fide emergencies arise, it is the responsibility of the student to coordinate with the instructor (emergency leave, hospitalization, SIR, etc.).
Students are expected to uphold all professional standards while in class. Sleeping is not permitted in class. I consider it professionally insulting if you fall asleep in my class.
The Computer Science department rules state that there will be no consumption of food in any Computer Science laboratory or classroom. Beverages are permitted in classrooms and labs if in closed containers.
3 exams will be administered. There will be an exam at the 4th week to make sure you've been paying attention. A proper midterm will be given in October. The final exam will be comprehensive. If for some reason a make-up exam will be required, inform the instructor at least 1 week in advance.
