The Penn World Tables: The definitive data source in growth, corrected for all types of problems.
NBER data: go to the bottom of the page and see what they have there!
Robert Barro's data. A great source with some overlap with the Penn World Tables. There is also cross-country data on education.
ICPSR: a great source of data if you're thinking about a different type of project. A great search engine.
