When Abraham left Babylon with his people, his wife was barren for she had not given him a single child, but with him was the son of his brother, Lot son of Haran. God gave Abraham upright sons after this and gave prophethood and the Book to his progeny. Every prophet who was sent after Abraham was from his progeny, and every book which was revealed from the heavens were to the prophets after him. He left his city with his household and relatives, and emigrated to a land in which he could worship his Lord.
Abraham is regarded as the father of all later prophets and a model which the Prophet Muhammad revives with his mission. Abraham establishes the sanctuary at Mecca and asks God to send a prophet to the city in the future.
