Of all the stories of the prophets, that of Joseph is most richly told in the text of the Quran, and has become one of the most popular of all Quranic stories. The stories closely parallels the Biblical account in Genesis. It is the story of the loss and return of Jacob's beloved son Joseph. Joseph had a vision when he was young. The eleven stars he saw symbolized his brothers. The sun and the moon symbolized his parents. They were all bowing down to him. When he woke up he told the dream to his father and his father knew that he was to obtain a high and exalted position in this world and the next, by the fact that his parents and brothers were bowing down to him in the dream.
