Weapon Hoards from Scotland

Left: Hoard of swords, axeheads, and other items buried in a loch at the base of Arthur's Seat, a hill in Edinburgh.

Right: Axeheads found in southeast Scotland.

Left: Various items found in the Shetland Islands, Isles of Lewis and Harris, and in sites scattered throughout northwest Scotland

These hoards include swords, axeheads, and spearheads among other metal objects. Some of the objects appear to be broken purposefully while other remain unfinished. Some are made of materials, such as tin, which indicate that they were not intended for use as actual weapons. Ritual weapons have also been discovered.
