1. Consider the case of seeking a target by passive means off the coast of Iceland when the propagation loss curve is as shown in Figure 4.5 of the NOA text.  The values of the terms in the sonar equation are: LS = 130, LN = 60, AG = 10, and DT = -10.  Assume that signal excess, SE, has a Normal distribution with mean 0 and standard deviation sSE = 10 dB.  Find the probability of detecting the target at ranges of (a) 6,000 yards and (b) 15,000 yards.
