How to Study Calculus
Dr. T. S. Michael

* You are strongly recommended to keep a separate formula list  on some sheets of paper that are separate from your regular notes and homework. Most class periods we will emphasize a small number of formulas and equations. Having a list of these in one place will help you review the material (say, for quizzes and exams). A good way to arrange the formulas is by drawing a vertical line down a sheet of paper. Put the formula/equation/graph in the left column, and the name or verbal description in the right column. For instance, the rightt column might say  "A = (1/2)(base)(height)," while the left column would say "Area of a triangle". Now you can fold the sheet along the vertical line and quiz yourself "backwards and forwards" by looking at one column as a prompt for the other column. All together we will have scores of formulas to learn this semester. As always, organization is your friend. Feel free to show me your formula sheets early in the semester so I can recommend improvements in format or content.
