Abstract: In an equicharacteristic commutative ring, one can make use of characteristic p techniques, more familiarly known as tight closure, to better understand various structural properties of the ring, its ideals and modules. We will discuss the test ideal of a commutative ring and how we use it to determine the type of singularities of the ring. In particular, we will focus our attention on rings which have F-pure singularities.
