Title:

Links, polynomials, bridges, tangles and endpoint distances

 

Abstract: We will give the fifteen-year history of a problem involving the geometric interpretation of knot polynomials. This year, the speaker made his third foray into this topic. Other participants have included Millett, Thistlethwaite, Stanford and Stoimenow. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional topology will both play a role.
