Title:

Relatives of the square peg problem and the configuration space test map scheme

Abstract: Given a map from a circle into the plane are there four points in the image that form a square? This is the square peg problem. One way to approach this problem is to make obstruction theoretic calculations with compactifications of configuration spaces. This method of proof has been dubbed the "Configuration space test map scheme." Using the square peg problem as a template we will explore this method of proof and the difficulties that arise in variants of this problem.
