Abstract: This is a survey talk on a well studied problem in operator theory concerning whether or not an operator (class of operators) on a Hilbert space has a cyclic vector (common cyclic vector). As a warm up, we will examine this problem in finite dimensions, where just the basic tools of linear algebra are needed. We will then proceed to examine the common cyclic vector problem for diagonal operators, normal operators, and unitary operators.
