• Assigned homework will be due weekly. Late homework will not be accepted without an excuse (such as SIR or MO).
• Extra credit. All extra credit assignments must be turned in before the 12 week grades are due. No credit for late extra credit!
  • Several computer projects using the free computer algebra system SAGE will be allowed as extra credit. Please read the instructions before doing the first assignment. You can earn up to 2% extra credit if you do all the Sage assignments.
  • You can also earn extra credit if you watch and take lecture notes for all 23 of the David Maddox MIT videos posted at http://www.usna.edu/Users/math/wdj/teach/sm212/mit/. (This is about 23 hours of video. No credit for other DE videos.) You must turn in two pages per lecture. You can earn up to 3% extra credit.
• We will also have quizzes and tests as often as possible, ideally every few weeks. The tests will be as in the syllabus, or as close as possible. Most exams allow calculators (but not all). In any case, you cannot share a calculator on an individual exam or quiz.
• Make-ups will be allowed for a test if you have a MO or are excused SIR. If you miss the scheduled make-up you will get a 0. No make-ups for quizzes (except in very unusual circumstances, but if you are on a sport team which travels regularly and let me know in advance the dates you will miss class then I can try to arrange the quizzes on other days). All make-ups must be completed by COB on the last day of classes.
• No calculators will be allowed on test 1 nor on the some portion (about 50\%) of the final exam.
• No assignments will be accepted after the close of business on the last meeting day of the class.
• Grading formulas: final grade = (.30)F + (.35)T + (.20)Q + (.15)H
  and period grade = [(.35)T + (.2)Q + (.15)H ]/(.7).

By the end of this course, the student should know the topics in the course objective.
