Fabrication Methods Course Webpage A much too common comment heard from builders is, "That engineer may have designed something that
might not break, but
I can't build it!" The main reason for that problem is that most
engineering courses focus on design analysis related to structural capacity
or loading. If the designer
does not consider how the product will be built, the final product
may be difficult or impossible to build, and it may be expensive, time-consuming
or even dangerous to maintain, and may also not provide the customer with a
satisfactory product! This course introduces the student to the
basic fabrication, quality control and planning methods for ship and
offshore structure construction. The goal is to give the student a basic
appreciation of the different fabrication techniques, so that their designs
