Presentation of the U.S. Army's VII Corps in Europe, WWII
This website is a demonstration of the capabilities of MICRODEM, in conjunction with the SO480 Spring 2008 Capstone course.
Audience #1: Parties interested in WWII, France & US Army
Our project focuses on the movement of the Army's VII Corps across Europe, from the Normandy D-Day landings until the last day of the war. For those interested in history, the capabilities of our final product show the movement of elements of the United States Army's VII Corps. Using the built-in timeline in Google Earth, a range of days can be viewed, or an individual daily record can be isolated to determine (relatively) precise unit position. Within each daily record is a photo, accompanied by a description and link to the unit's website. As this is only a demonstration of the capabilities of this project, many values were not filled in for the sake of eliminating redundancy. The capabilities of this model template can be expanded with whatever particular parameters the user would like to define, allowing multi-faceted records for each of the entries.
Audience #2: Parties who would like to do this with their own bit of history
This project not only applies to the selected unit movements during WWII, but can be adapted to any progression of dates that a user would like to view. To start, all that is required are a database of points of interest; from there, the information can be made to be as robust as the database designer would like. All fields are fully customizable, and can be tailored to display text, photos, hyperlinks, embedded maps, weapons fans, and more.
