Hyperspectral Imagery Lab
Insure that you are running version 2008.4.1 of MICRODEM (this is the April Fool's Day version). Update it if necessary.
We will do this lab in 5 groups of 3. The assistant section leader (Co 3 member) is responsible for assigning groups, and that each group gets one of the 5 data sets available.
Go to http://aviris.jpl.nasa.gov/html/aviris.freedata.html and download one of the 5 data sets, and download it to the c:\mapdata\aviris directory.
Uncompress the file. It uses Unix compression, and MICRODEM can handle it. The file is probably compressed in two steps, first TARed and then GZipped, and you uncompress in the reverse order.
You are to prepare a brief PowerPoint briefing on the area, and what the hyperspectral imagery shows.
Discuss the advantages and challenges of hyperspectral data, and why you need a variety of techniques to look at this data.
Try to match the reflectance spectrum at several points with the USGS spectral library.
