Satellite Math Lab

Insure that you are running version 2008.3.26 of MICRODEM.  Update it if necessary.  The help file has been expanded to cover the two topics we will be using.

We will use the 7 band version of the Landsat image of Annapolis.  It will be in c:\mapdata\annapolis_tm\annap_7_bands.idx.

You might want to try the Window, Tile option to show all the bands at once.

Do a principal components analysis of the imagery, and answer the following questions:

• How does this compare with the two band cases we looked at yesterday?

• How many of the images contain useful information?  How can you justify your assessment?

• Which bands are most different from the others?  How can you see this in the principal compoinents?

Do a supervised classification of the scene, using four categories.  Answer the following questions:

• What is the effect of changing the std dev allowed in the classification?

• How much do you trust your classification?
