Animating Global Change
SO503, Spring 2007
The NASA site at http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/BlueMarble/
has the data referred to in the Stockli and others (2006) EOS paper.
Get a series of images to use to make a movie:
- You can use the monthly global images from the Blue Marble. Note
the possible resolutions available, but get just the smallest. Note
where you save them.
- Alternatively you can get images from
http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/subsets/ for one of the subsets.
While you could make a movie that is almost two years long, confine yourself
to a dozen or iso images. Note the possible resolutions available, but
get just the smallest. Note where you save them.
Task 1. Make a movie of the annual pattern.
- Use MICRODEM.
- Look up Movies, Movie Playback in the help file. It should be
very easy to create the movie, so contact the instructor if you are
having problems.
- Save the Movie as an AVI, Animated GIF, and MPEG.
- Use Windows Movie Maker as well,
- Compare the different movies, both for analysis after you make them and
for importing into a Power Point presentation. Insure that you discuss
what you have to do to insure that your Power Point presentation works on
another computer.
Assignment.
- Discuss your results in a PowerPoint presentation.
- Include a movie, and insure that it will work on the instructor's
computer.
