SO503, Spring 2013

Final Exam

Insure that you complete one question, which will be preferable to having incomplete answers for both.

Problem 1.

Get the monthly Arctic Oscillation (AO) values from http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/daily_ao_index/ao.shtml.  Note there are two different formats for this data.  Get whichever you think is easier to work with.

Get the monthly NAO from http://www.cpc.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/pna/nao_index.html.    Note that at the bottom of the page there are two different formats for this data.  Get whichever you think is easier to work with.

Get both series to cover the same time period.  You can do this in Excel, but must indicate in your Matlab code what steps you took.

Graph the two series in a format that allows a comparison between them.

Perform a cross correlation of the two series, and discuss what the results show.  Find the best correlation and the lag at which it occurs.

Put the two graphs, your discussion, and your matlab code into a Word document.

Problem 2.

This file with a point cloud comes from a Lidar survey.  The units are in meters.
