Time Series Class

Insure that you do an update on your computer. We will use MICRODEM, opening a database without a map.

Get two data sets:

• dBase file with the tides for Crescent City, CA  This has the predicted tide, observed tide, and surge (difference between the two).

• dBase file with the tides for Annapolis, Solomon's, and Tolchester Beach.

Open MICRODEM.

Open the Crescent City database with the File, Open database without map.

Do STATS, Time Series, Fit Fourier Curve, for all three of the tide series in the file.  How many terms does it take to recreate each?  Why do you think this is the case?  What is the dominant period(s) in each of the series?

Do STATS, FFT for all three of the tide series in the file.  How does these results compare with the previous results?

Do an Autocorrelation of each series.  What does this tell you?

Open the Three tides database with the File, Open database without map.

Do a cross correlation for each pair of stations.  What does this tell you?
