Time Series Lab

1.  Use your ice thickness data set from last week, and investigate to see whether it is periodic.  You should perform at least three tests, and determine what each says.

2.  Would a cross correlation with this data make much sense?  Defend your answer.  If you want to try it, you can either get a second data set from one of your classmates, or download another from the web site.

3.  At http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/glossary/soi.shtml you can get data sets for the pressures at Darwin, Tahiti, and the Southern Oscillation Index.  Check the new "Monthly Time Series" import option in MICRODEM.  Which of the three data sets are periodic, and what techniques showed you this?

4.  Do a cross correlation between the two pressure readings.  What does this analysis tell you?  You might have to do some data manipulation in Excel to make this work.
