Strong river, strong tides

${defaultAlt}

These simulations all use consistent ROMS model inputs (e.g. mixing coefficients, roughness length).

Forcing consists of a steady river flow from the closed left boundary at 2280 m3/s and an M2 tidal signal with amplitude 0.5 m from the open ocean right boundary. The graphics below show the center portion of the domain; the channel continues to x = -65 km to the left and x =+65 km to the right.

 The animation is surface vorticity in one-hour intervals from the start of day 15 through the end of day 40 of the simulation.  The still images (surface residual currents, surface residual vorticity) are averages of the last 20 days of the simulation.
