Frederic I. Davis, Ph.D.

 

Fred Davis grew up in New York City where he graduated from the Bronx High School of Science before attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earning an S.B. in Chemistry. Changing his field of interest, he earned a Ph.D. in mathematical physics at Brandeis University.

Arriving at the Naval Academy in 1968, Dr. Davis joined the Mathematics Department where he continues to teach. He served as chair of the department from 1982 to 1988. In 1992, he was appointed to his current position as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. In this position, he advises the Academic Dean and Provost on and is responsible for matters relating to the curriculum and the progress of midshipmen through the academic program.

Dr. Davis has served on numerous committees with institutional scope at the Academy. He has been the faculty representative for Navy Wrestling for many years and announces home meets. He also served as a rear commodore of the Naval Academy Sailing Squadron in 1971.

Dr. Davis and his wife Katherine, an accomplished woman's clothes designer, are parents to two grown daughters, and two grandchildren.
