The Girl of My Dreams

Don Tennant II

When I lay down my head on my pillow at night,

While watching the moon shine its beams,
I slip into sleep while I bask in its light,
     And I find her—the girl of my dreams.
As I’m resting so snuggly with eyes secured tight,
     And folded in silken-smooth reams,
I will see her there standing in satin of white,
     And I watch her—the girl of my dreams.
She is shining and brilliant and ever so bright,
     And she loves me, or so it now seems,
And I think of her eyes and her lips every night,
     And I love her—the girl of my dreams.
Then the sun barges in with its eye-scalding light—
     He and I are on opposite teams;
And I struggle to cling to her piece of delight,
     But I lose her—the girl of my dreams.
