Sonnet Ten: Night By Night

I had a dream of you the other night—
I saw you up in heaven’s white and blue,
And you descended in a cloud of light,
And with you near, I was in heaven too.
Then you bestowed your love on this poor soul—
You gave the love that only angels give;
And with your warmth you once more made me whole,
And now I felt at last that I could live.
As quick as you had come you went away,
But like a stamp you left behind a print;
I have the strength to live another day—
The fire burns although you take the flint.
I woke this morning fresh in morning’s light,
Knowing that I’ll dream of you tonight. |
