Bay Light
By David Van Kampen

I looked across the bay to see
A thousand masted stars.
They swayed not with the
Heavens but with the waters. |
| |
| |
Swinging small circles
High above the reflecting waves. |
| |
| |
And down near the surface
I saw a thousand green
And red stars winking
In secret unison at each other |
| |
| |
All the stars rose and fell
Not with the sun but with the tide,
And gave life to the dark. |
