
LT Joshua Welle is assigned to the Political Science department at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland teaching American Government and International Relations. In addition, he serves as ADM William Crowe’s, USN (Ret.) teaching assistant in U.S. National security Decision Making. Outside the classroom, LT Welle is the officer in charge of the Model United Nations program and assists in coaching the Navy Club Soccer Team.
LT Welle graduated from the US Naval Academy and was commissioned in 2002. He started his career as a Surface Warfare Officer in San Diego, California. During his first tour, LT Welle served as the Weapons Officer and Force Protection Officer on the USS Pearl Harbor (LSD-52) in support of Operation Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. In 2004, LT Welle reported to the USS Cowpens (CG-63) as the Main Propulsion Assistant, within the USS Kittyhawk Carrier Battle Group. The USS Cowpens is stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. While on shore duty at the USNA, LT Welle volunteered and participated during the summer of 2006 in the United Nations Mission in Liberia as a UN Military Observer.
LT Welle has a master’s degree from the University of Maryland in International Relations. His military decorations include the Navy Achievement Medal (3), the Battle Efficiency Award (3), the Sea Service Ribbon (2), and Forward Deployed ribbon.
