WELCOME PARENTS
Dear Mr. and Mrs.
The Navy Men’s Club Soccer Team would like to welcome you to another exciting and promising season as a member of one of the finest sports families at the Naval Academy. All active players, alumni, and family members of the team truly embody the spirit of our organization, contributing to our success both on and off the field. I hope this letter finds you well and we appreciate your interest in the team’s future.
Please allow me to recap our fall 2007 season. We started off the season with high expectations and a few lofty goals. Staying true to style of Navy Club Soccer we overcame many obstacles, and exceeded our expectations. We finished the 2007 season with an overall record of 14-8-2. This winning record was achieved by placing well at numerous regional tournaments, including Virginia Tech and Towson, and competing in the Regional and National Tournaments. The team took third place at Regionals, earning an automatic bid into the championship bracket at the NIRSA National Championships in Pensacola, FL (http://www.nirsa.org/sports/soccer/sport_club/links.aspx). Navy competed against strong squads such as the University of Arizona and Colorado State University, finishing with a top twenty ranking.
The spring season is just around the corner, and while our travels will not be as broad as in the fall, the competition will still be just as exciting. Our schedule is currently under revision, but the cornerstones are a trip to the University of Clemson from 4-6 APR, and our annual home tournament, the Navy Brotherton Classic, on 29 MAR. Once our schedule has been confirmed, it will be posted on the team website www.usna.edu/mcsoccer/. The website not only has our schedule, but also a history of the team dating back to 1999, pictures from past teams and the 2007 Fall Season, so please visit and stay up-to-date on our progress as we compete this spring.
We would like to extend a special thanks to all who helped us reach and compete at the National Tournament last season. Your hospitality and support help make this team a true source of pride. As the Class of 2009 assumes the leadership of the team, we plan to build upon an already solid foundation and carry the team into the coming years.
Sincerely,
Hugh Anderson ‘09
The Navy Men’s Club Soccer President
