Education

Ph.D., Naval Postgraduate School

Commander William J. Marr, a native of Wayne, Nebraska, received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the U. S. Naval Academy and was commissioned in 1981. He received his Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1994 where he completed thesis research on Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs).

   
Career

Upon completion of Naval Diving & Salvage School and the Surface Warfare Officer's Basic School, CDR Marr served as the Gunnery and Diving Officer aboard the USS NASHVILLE (LPD-13) until final qualification as a Special Operations Officer in 1983. His remaining operational tours have been within the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Diving community at EOD Mobile Units TWO, THREE, and a tour as Officer in Charge of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group TWO Detachment Keflavik, Iceland. His last assignment was as Commanding Officer, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit TEN from 6 August 1994-20 July 1996. Commander Marr was designated a Master Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician in 1990 and has been a Naval Parachutist since 1978.

Personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, three Navy Achievement Medals, and expert medals for both rifle and pistol. He is a licensed and registered Professional Mechanical Engineer in the State of California.
