Mission:
The Center for the Study of Private Navies was established to assess the history, presence, and viability of organized maritime components that are not assigned to traditional, state-owned navies and coast guards in order to provide greater maritime situational awareness for officers graduating from the Naval Academy and promote discussion of how the ocean is used in the twenty-first century.
Objectives:
- Serve as a repository of relevant media stories and articles about private navies
- Maintain a database of organizations and ships
- Explore the subject through talks and panels at the U.S. Naval Academy
- Guide Naval Academy students in researching this issue.
