Stockdale Center Associate Fellows Program

The Center's Associate Fellowship program is an internal leadership development program tailored for our mid-level faculty, coaches, and staff, using a combination of online content, guest speakers, experiential opportunities, and cohort special projects aimed at giving the next generation of USNA leaders the tools they need to succeed. At the end of their tenure, Fellows provide the program with project results, presentations and publications for dissemination, across the Academy and Nation.

  • Barry, Timothy

    Biography

    LCDR Timothy Barry is a 2002 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. He entered the Surface Warfare community and served as Auxiliaries Officer aboard USS PORTER (DDG 78) and fleeted up to the position of CIC Officer, earning both his SWO Qualification and EOOW Letter and making deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Active Endeavor as a member of Standing NATO Maritime Group Two. After earning a Master's of Science degree in Applied Physics in 2008 and completing the Department Head Training Pipeline, he reported to USS BARRY (DDG 52) as Operations Officer in May 2009, deploying in support of Operation AURIGA 10 as a member of the HMS ARK ROYAL UK Carrier Task Group. In late 2010, LCDR Barry accepted a Hot-fill Billet as Combat Systems Officer in USS COLE (DDG 67) and oversaw the extensive installation of and training on Ballistic Missile Defense Systems in preparation for COLE’s 2012 Deployment.   • Crump, Dennis

    LCDR Dennis Crump commissioned as a submarine officer through the Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate program. He attended Officer Candidate School in 2006 after receiving his B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Virginia Military Institute. He is a native of Fairfax, VA and has spent his naval career on the east coast or overseas. After nuclear power school, LCDR Crump was assigned to the USS TOLEDO (SSN 769) where he deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf. The next sea tour was as the Navigator/Operations Officer onboard the USS MINNESOTA (SSN 783). There he completed the post commissioning repair period, weapons and sound trials. His shore tours include working for 5th Fleet forward deployed to Bahrain, teaching ROTC at Virginia Tech, and Special Operations Officer at CTF69 the submarine task force for 6th Fleet stationed in Italy. LCDR Crump obtained his M.Eng in Electrical Engineering and is now serving at the USNA as a Junior Permanent Military Professor teaching Physics and Electrical Engineering classes.

  • McGuire, Paul

    Paul McGuire performs Marketing Research and Assessment at the United States Naval Academy Admissions Department, where he uses Data Analytics to evaluate program efficacy and drive marketing optimization. Paul has a strong commitment to service, joining the military out of high school and holding multiple positions at the State Department and Department of Defense. He used his GI Bill to attend the University of Southern Maine where he discovered his passion for Higher Ed and graduated with a Bachelors in Political Science. Paul is currently enrolled at the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business pursuing a Masters of Business Administration.

  • Susmarski, Adam

    Dr. Adam Susmarski is a physiatrist and team physician at the United States Naval Academy (USNA) where he currently serves at the department head of the Brigade Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Department. His team physician duties throughout his tenure at USNA include wrestling, men’s soccer, water polo, rifle, men’s and women’s cross country, as well as, men’s and women’s swimming and diving. Dr. Susmarski’s Naval medicine career has included deployments to Afghanistan, Kuwait, Africa, and Europe. He has been decorated with multiple individual and unit recognitions including but not limited to Navy/Marine Corps Commendation and Achievement Medals, Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Army Meritorious Unit Commendation, Battle “E”, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal with Bronze Star, Seabee Combat Warfare Device, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Junior Officer of the Year, and US Navy Green “H” award. He was honored by being deep selected, below zone for promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) in the 2014 and selected in 2019 for promotion to the rank of Commander (CDR). Throughout his fourteen year career in medicine Dr. Susmarski has spent a significant amount of time working in the field of Sports/Musculoskeletal Medicine and has provided care to a wide range of athletes in a variety of sports encompassing athletes from high school, college, professional, military, Olympic, Paralympic, and Special Olympics levels of competition.
