POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The U.S. Naval Academy invites applications for multiple tenure track positions in the Department of Cyber Science beginning as early as January 2018 for the start of the Spring semester, or August 2018, for the Fall semester.  We are seeking to fill positions at all academic ranks in support of growing cybersecurity education initiatives.  These initiatives include a rapidly growing, ABET-accredited cyber operations major - and a state-of-the-art building under construction to support multi-disciplinary cybersecurity education and research.  Because of our position as a service academy and our collaborative activities within the military and government cybersecurity and intelligence communities, we provide a unique opportunity for our faculty to work with cybersecurity thought leaders from all over the world, and to impact an important, nascent program with a substantial global impact. 

Cyber Operations has become a top priority for the Department of Defense, which increasingly relies on technology and cyber space for warfighting capability, command and control, critical information exchange, and administrative needs. As a result, there is a growing demand for the United States Naval Academy to produce leaders with the appropriate awareness and skills to meet the nation’s operational cyber needs. 

Given the breadth of the topic, a variety of academic backgrounds are welcome to apply.  The requirements of the position include: teaching and developing undergraduate courses focused on Cyber Operations, academic research in the area of Cyber Operations, and mentoring of students and faculty. Candidates should have an interest in and understanding of Cyber Operations as well as practical teaching and/or research experience involving technical cyber security areas such as systems security, network security, or SCADA systems. 

Positions are available at all academic ranks (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor) and salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. 

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • A Ph.D. in a cyber technology-relevant field, which includes fields such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Security, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering is required (anticipated completion of Ph.D no later than November 2017 for Spring start date and July 2018 for Fall start date is acceptable).

  • Successful candidates must be eligible and able to screen for a U.S. security clearance up to the Top Secret level.

Preferred:

  • Well qualified candidates will have scholarship and teaching experience at the collegiate level.
