POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at the United States Naval Academy invites applications for the endowed Corbin A. McNeill Chair position.  It is expected that each semester, the endowed professor will teach upper-level courses in the department, incorporating leading-edge technologies, topics and analytical applications into the Naval Academy curriculum. The professor will also be expected to aid with the development of courses and curriculum within the Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering programs, mentor midshipmen, engage in scholarly discussions with the faculty and present seminars in his or her area of expertise. The initial appointment for this position is scheduled to begin the Fall semester of 2018 and will last one to two years, based on the needs of the Naval Academy and desires of the appointee.

This is a full-time, 10-month non-tenure track, excepted service federal position.  Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • A Master of Science degree earned in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or a closely-related technical field.  
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred:

  • The candidate is expected to possess an outstanding reputation and technical expertise in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Education or experience that can support teaching and mentorship of Midshipmen in areas associated with their technical expertise.
