The Department of History at the United States Naval Academy is seeking applicants to fill a tenure track position at the assistant professor level in Eighteenth and Nineteenth-Century Western European History to begin the Fall semester of 2018.  The department is seeking teacher-scholar-mentors committed to inclusive pedagogy, with the experience and expertise to work effectively with a diverse student body and faculty.  USNA is a service academy and top tier liberal arts college with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in faculty teaching and research.

Successful candidates will be expected to teach the Naval Academy’s core comparative civilization sequence, as well as upper level courses in their areas of specialty. The teaching load is 3-3 with small section sizes and two to three preps a year.

This is a full-time, 10-month tenure track, excepted service federal position. 



  • A Ph.D. in History or closely related field is required (anticipated completion of Ph.D. no later than June 2018 is acceptable).

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.


  • Potential to produce significant peer-reviewed scholarly publications.
