POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The NAPS Athletic Department invites applications for an Assistant Lacrosse Coach to begin in Spring 2022.  The Assistant Lacrosse position exists to enhance efficiency in supporting the USNA Physical / Athletic Mission at NAPS. This position is responsible to the NAPS Athletic Director and the NAPS Head Lacrosse Coach and serves as a special advisor in the area of athletic development.  Successful candidates will be required to provide a broad spectrum of coaching and administrative duties in a traditional athletic setting and in a non-traditional military environment.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

The focus of the employee’s efforts principally will be as the Assistant Lacrosse Coach.  Responsibilities may include development of assigned players, practice planning and organization, conducting team practice sessions, laundry (practice and game), game set up, and player academic advising and mentoring.  The Assistant Lacrosse Coach will provide a safe environment for all midshipmen candidates in all NAPS athletic facilities, provide guidance and direction to all athletes at NAPS, and be responisble for other duties assigned by the NAPS Athletic Director.

This is an intermittent, excepted service time-limited position with an initial appointment of 1 year. The appointment may be renewed subject to the availability of resources, performance in the position, and the needs of the Naval Academy Prep School.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university;
  • have a minimum of (3) years’ experience in either managing, coaching or competing in lacrosse;
  • demonstrate the ability to develop athletes at a high school or preparatory program level; and
  • display proficiency in the rules, equipment, techniques, safety, and strategy of lacrosse.

Preferred:

  • Experience with installing, coaching / player development within the college environment;
  • flexible to the challenges of coaching in a military environment; and
  • Certified Strength Coach (CSC).

  2. Applications will be reviewed beginning 24 January 2022 and the position will remain open until it is filled.
