 LT Sarah Chi reported in October 2020 and is currently an Assistant Professor of Military Law at the United States Naval Academy and the Academic Officer for the Leadership, Ethics, and Law (LEL) Department.  LT Chi grew up in Garden Grove, CA and earned a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Mass Communications from the University of California, Berkeley in 2009.  LT Chi then graduated from the University of California, Davis School of Law where she received her Juris Doctor in 2015.  Following her family’s tradition of naval service, in 2015, LT Chi commissioned as a staff corps officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps.  She reported to Region Legal Service Office Southwest (RLSO SW) in San Diego in March 2016 for her First Tour Judge Advocate tour.  
After completing her core legal rotations, LT Chi reported to and served aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) in Bremerton, WA from May 2018 to October 2020.  As the NIMITZ Deputy Command Judge Advocate, and with the vital support of her Legalmen, she processed hundreds of disciplinary and legal administrative cases to ensure good order and discipline, and advised her chain of command on their various courses of action within the military justice system.  LT Chi also qualified and served as Damage Control Locker Officer for Repair 1B, leading 117 Sailors through 48 General Quarters drill scenarios, as well as underway Junior Officer of the Deck (JOOD) where she stood critical bridge watches while deployed to the THIRD, FIFTH, and SEVENTH Fleet AORs.  
LT Chi is licensed to practice law in California and entitled to wear the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of second award), Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Navy “E” Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon.
