LCDR Hartley was commissioned in May 2012 through the United States Naval Academy, where he earned a bachelor’s of science degree in Arabic. Upon graduation, he reported to Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training (BUD/S) Class 300 in Coronado, CA.
Following graduation from SEAL Qualification Training in June of 2014, LCDR Hartley reported to SEAL TEAM EIGHT at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, VA, where he assumed the Assistant Platoon Commander role for Alpha Platoon. While aboard SEAL TEAM EIGHT, he completed three deployments in support of Combined Joint Task Force – East Africa. Following his tour at SEAL TEAM EIGHT, LCDR Hartley transferred to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team ONE (SDVT-1), in Pearl Harbor, HI in October 2017. While attached to SDVT-1, LCDR Hartley served as a Squad Commander in Alpha Platoon, and completed a Pacific Command (PACOM) deployment aboard the USS MISSISSIPPI. After returning from deployment, he transferred to SEAL TEAM THREE, serving as the Platoon Commander for Alpha Platoon. While at SEAL TEAM THREE, LCDR Hartley deployed to Yemen from September 2021 – April 2022 as TRIDENT 1311 element Commander in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with “V” device for valor, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing “C” device, the Joint Service Achievement Medal with combat distinguishing “C” device, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
In June of 2022, LCDR Hartley reported to the U.S. Naval Academy LEAD Division as the SEAL Program Manager and NL310 Leadership Instructor.
