Lieutenant Mark Jessup is currently an Assistant Professor of Military Law at the United States Naval Academy and the Academic Officer for the Leadership, Ethics, and Law (LEL) Department. Born and raised outside of Houston, Texas, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, magna cum laude from Texas A&M University in 2012, as well as a Certificate in Leadership Development Studies from his four years in the Corps of Cadets. He graduated from the University of Houston Law Center in May 2015, and commissioned through the JAG Corps Student Program in June 2015.

LT Jessup attended Officer Development School in Newport, Rhode Island from October to November of 2015, where he served as the Division Officer and received the George T. Smith award in recognition of Military Leadership. He graduated from the Naval Justice School’s Basic Lawyer Course in March 2016.

After his first tour in Naples, Italy, he served three years as a Trial Counsel at Region Legal Service Office Northwest, during which he was selected as the Naval Legal Service Command's Trial Counsel of the Year and qualified as a Specialist in the Military Justice Litigation Career Track. LT Jessup is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and is authorized to wear the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of second award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Pistol Marksmanship Medal.
