Lieutenant Commander Danielle Litchford graduated from the University of Michigan in 2002 and received her commission via NROTC. After attending Surface Warfare Officer School (SWOS) in Newport, RI, she reported to USS ROSS (DDG 71) as the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Officer. While serving in ROSS, LCDR Litchford deployed to 5th and 6th Fleets to support Operation Enduring Freedom. Her second tour was as Auxiliaries Officer in USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7).  During her tour, IWO JIMA participated in Joint Task Force Katrina in 2005 and deployed a second time to the 5th and 6th Fleet to support Operation Enduring Freedom.
Following her Division Officer tours, LCDR Litchford reported to the SWOS Maritime Warfare directorate, instructing new Division Officers and prospective Department Heads about ASW Tactics. While at SWOS, she earned an MBA in Human Resource Management from Salve Regina University.
After completing the Department Head training pipeline, LCDR Litchford reported to USS NITZE (DDG 94) as Weapons Officer in March 2010. During her WEPS tour, LCDR Litchford deployed to the 4th and 6th Fleet. She then “fleeted up” to Combat Systems Officer and completed an eight-month deployment to 5th Fleet as part of the final ENTERPRISE Carrier Strike Group deployment.
In January 2013, LCDR Litchford was selected as a Junior Permanent Military Professor of Leadership at the United States Naval Academy.  She currently serves as a Master Instructor in the Department of Leadership Ethics and Law, teaching both NL110, Preparing to Lead, and NE203, Ethics and Moral Reasoning for the Naval Leader.
Her personal awards include four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals and one Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
