MAJ Patel enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May 2000. She received her commission with the U.S. Army from Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Benning, GA, in November 2010. She holds a Masters of Business in Healthcare Management from American Intercontinental University and a certification in Weapons of Mass Destruction from Waldorf University. Her military education includes the U.S. Army Chemical Officer Basic and Advanced Courses.

MAJ Patel served as the Unified Land Operations and Defense CBRN Response Force (DCRF) Platoon leader for the 181st Chemical Company at Fort Hood, TX. CBRN officer and Protection officer for I Corps G3 Current Operations, at JBLM, WA. Company Commander for Alpha company 3-10 Infantry Battalion, Small-Group Instructor (SGI) for the CBRN Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC), and Small Group Leader (SGL) for the CBRN Captains Career Course at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and currently as Leadership instructor for USNA.

Her military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), the Navy Achievement Medal (2 GS), the Navy Good Conduct Medal (2 GS), the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2 GS), Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon (2 GS), the Army Service Ribbon, Navy Enlisted Surface Warfare Badge, and Instructor Badge.
